Well I guess y’all get a bonus this week since my finger hit the wrong button. I hope you enjoy. In my. Last blog I mentioned I always wore hat because I didn’t like my hair. So another change I made in my appearance was my hair. This took me finding a hairdresser that would listen to me and do what I asked. I remember when I tried explaining to my hairdresser at the time, that I was discovering myself, and had figured out that my gender identity was non-binary. I wanted her to cut my hair shorter. This would help me to create the “gender expression” that I felt the most comfortable with. She was really hesitant. If I remember correctly I went to her 3 to 4 more times, before I started getting frustrated.I tried several different hairdressers until I found the perfect one.
During all this, I remembered a time when I lived in Georgia and I had a hairdresser that would do anything I wanted. Also I could go in and have no idea what I wanted to do and could say, “You do what ever you want”. She would, without hesitation. When I moved to Ottawa, I did Saint Baldrick’s which is a fundraiser for childhood cancer. With this fundraiser you shaved your head to raise money for that cause. When I did this is made me feel good.
When I finally found Kristi, at Manic Trends, she cut my hair the way I wanted. Since she has been cutting my hair, my confidence has gone through the roof. She has cut my hair short and listens to exactly the way I want my haircut. We have also dyed my hair many different colors. I would have never thought a haircut could make a change in my life.
As you know, right now we are experiencing COVID. I haven’t gotten a hair cut since quarantine started, except for Jenn shaving the sides and back of my hair once. As each week has gone by, my hair has grown. I have started putting a hat on my head just like I did in college just to feel more comfortable.
