Do you answer your phone when someone calls and you see “unknown caller”? I used to hit the button to hang up. Most of these phone calls are spam calls or calls from telemarketers that are prerecorded stuff. So yeah hanging up it just the normal thing to do.
Well recently I have had to get in the habit of answering these phone calls. Especially after I call Planned Parenthood for something. Every time they call you back or call you to provide information about lab results it shows up “unknown caller and it’s from a different number each time. Why is this you might ask? Well it is for your own protection.
I didn’t realize how much Planned Parenthood is concerned about keeping their patients safe until I needed to have a prescription filled. The last time I had visited Planned Parenthood there was a mixup and the doctor forgot to send a refill notice to the pharmacy for my testosterone. I called the pharmacy to have that prescription refilled. The pharmacy tech told me that they would have to contact my provider. I waited a couple of days and hadn’t heard than my prescription was filled. I called the pharmacy again. This time the pharmacy tech said you might need to contact your provider to move this along.
When I called Planned Parenthood I had to leave a message so they would call me back. When I got called back the phone showed “unknown caller” . I answered right away. I had gotten used to this already. However, I was surprised what the person on the other end said when I told them the pharmacy was trying to contact my provider so I could get my perception refilled. They said, “the pharmacy can’t contact your provider on your behalf.” This made me realize how much Planned Parenthood cared about keeping their patients safe, if their home life wasn’t a safe environment. So if you aren’t in a safe environment where your family is okay with you wanting to transition or even get the help that you might need to be able to be your true self Planned Parenthood can provide you the safety you may need.
